Bringin' Our Boy Home!

Work has been kickin’ my butt lately, so what’s new? But I’m coming up for air long enough to post this blog. Has anyone noticed that I never post about my children? If strangers ever happened upon our blog, which might be plausible if I ever posted anything interesting, it might appear that Kirk and I are a childless, anti-social, older couple who have nothing better to do but ride around on our Harley and incubate larvae for fun…which is mostly true, except for the childless part.

Actually, I have justifiable reasons for omitting our children from the blog:

1) I really haven’t been blogging all that long, and sometimes Vacations, Harley’s and Botflys are more interesting than children.

2) Our married children (Jen & Tony and Jared & Heather) have their OWN blogs. Since our 40-something-year-old friends DON’T blog (pretending we really have friends) the only people who DO visit our blog are family and occasionally friends of our children, who leave comments because they feel sorry for us that we don’t have friends of our OWN to comment. So I don’t blog about the married kids because that would be like watching a re-run, don’t you think?

3) We do have two younger sons who have been away from home serving full-time missions for the LDS church. Josh has been serving in the Jackson, Mississippi mission since October 2006, and Justin has been serving in the Santa Rosa, California Spanish-speaking mission since May 2008. I miss them horribly and can’t bear to think of them, so I haven’t blogged about them. (Okay that’s not true but it sounds better than, “I just didn’t feel like blogging about them”.)

I truly DO miss our sons. When Josh had been away from home for only three months I started asking, “Shouldn’t he be coming home soon?” Then I would count on my fingers and realize he still had another 21 months to go….sigh. Only two states away in California, Justin is so close that I’m often tempted to jump in the car, drive the 800 miles to California and kidnap him for a day! Of course that would be breaking the rules and Justin, as those who know him will confirm, is definitely NOT a rule-breaker.

BUT, we are in serious countdown mode for our Josh to come home!! Kirk and I will be hopping a plane to Mississippi on TUESDAY to bring our boy home! I know, right?! I am so excited I can hardly stand it!! So I started thinking about what it might be like for Josh to see his family AFTER TWO WHOLE YEARS!!

Huh…turns out not a lot has changed after all! BUT, my predictions for what Justin will miss while he’s gone?...2 babies, a wedding (not necessarily in that order) and Kirk will finally build me that swimming pool…

How exciting! Actually the wife and I will be taking a semester off and coming back to Utah beginning Jan. next year, so this time when we come to your house maybe you will actually let us in!
Also, just to give you a heads up, I remember that Josh showed an interest in China, and I have just now made it my personal goal to get him to come over there with us some day!
Finally . . . No pool=No friends. Pool=Friends, friends, and more friends. Think about it Brother Benson.

Love the post!! It is hilarious!! And how did you know that Jared and I are planning on having 2 babies by the time Justin gets home?!? That way they'll be as close as Jen and Jared in age!! Oh, my gosh!! What if?? And I love Pat's comment! He is right, if you want any friends OR family to come over next summer, you should seriously start thinking about a pool. We'll just drive the scooter over with the baby in the middle-PERFECT!!

Pat: This was Kirk's response to your comment about no pool = no friends...and I quote, "Exaaaactly"

Heather: My response to your question - "yes, what if?"

Lisa: I AM going crazy, and it just may BE because Josh is coming home.

Josh is reporting at 1:00pm on November 9th!

Up to this point you had more about me in your blog than your children!

That's truen Em! Since you ARE closer to my kids age than mine, I oughta be able to count my Timpanogos hike-blog as a kid-blog, instead of a sister-in-law blog. p.s. did you note Josh's report date? 1pm in our home ward building on November 9th. I'll call ya!

I want to go to Thriller with you guys!!! Please? I'll retract the Botfly comment I left on Jen's blog. Are you really going to go because if you are then we are going to need to get tickets soon.
Call me!!

I can't wait for Josh to come home!!
Tell dad to think of the "opening social parties". If you guys got a pool his name would go down as being the coolest BYU Bishop in history! (but it will only go down if you get a pool!)

Hey it's me...your friend...posting a comment on your blog! I promise I won't call you a Nazi. Oh my gosh could I be stupider?! Tuesday?! How exciting! I decided it's good I don't have any boys. I don't think I have it in me to let them go away for 2 whole years! Ugh! And being 2 states away? I would totally drive down and stalk him! If you want a stalking partner I am so there!

AAAAA! KATHY!!! (sreamed in a tone similar to high school girls meeting up again after a whole summer apart) Can't believe you found my blog and I am pretty embarassed about how you found it. I try to avoid being such a nerd that I comment on fake people's blogs (ssb) but I couldnt resist this time. And I am glad to hear I am not the only nerd who reads the comments there too!
So lets get together soon so that I don't have to leave ridiculously long comments here (though I will still always leave comments, just maybe not this long). I know you are very busy and important so just tell me when you can :).

Ok. Confession. I have been a super-selfish blogger lately. I have been posting but not commenting. That ends today! I read this a few days ago and thought "I'll come back and comment when I have a second". Fast forward a few days and all my spare seconds seem to have been spent.....hmmmm, haven't really accomplished much so I'm not sure really. Now enough about me, YER BOY IS COMIN HOME!! Hip, hip, hooray!! I loved the way you posted this with all your cute little pics and comments! When "yer boy" gets home I bet the first thing he'll want to do is take a ride on Jared's new "hog" dontcha think?

As I was reaing this post I noticed a few discrepancies that I thought I should clear up. 1st of all, stating that in the past 2 years the only thing worth mentioning was my haircut is a major error!! It should read...Jen and Tony moved 3 hours away, built a lovely home that they can't afford, and Jen also took part of a triathalon. If we are only talking about hair, well Rachel chopped her hair too, and she is now a school teacher. Jared did only get braces, but Heathers hair seems to have gotten longer. Well I just thought that I would help my mom out, Seeing that her and my dad never wear helmets it doesn't surprise me that she would overlook these things!
